Be Led Astray
I believe in searching for truth.
“THE PURSUIT OF TRUTH AND BEAUTY IS A SPHERE OF ACTIVITY IN WHICH WE ARE PERMITTED TO REMAIN CHILDREN ALL OUR LIVES” EINSTEIN
There is something in you the worlds needs... Have you found it yet?
I'm here to lead you astray...
To a land of nonsense and childlike play.
"PLAY IS THE HIGHEST FORM OF RESEARCH" EINSTEIN
“MEN DO NOT QUIT PLAYING BECAUSE THEY GROW OLD; THEY GROW OLD BECAUSE THEY QUIT PLAYING” OLIVER WENDELL HOLMES SR
They say that after the bible and Shakespeare, Lewis Carroll was the most potent author on earth.
The story of Alice's Adventures In Wonderland is filled with symbols and truths:
Be curious. Be brave. Be led astray. Forget about time and live in the moment. Allow yourself to be a little mad. Let every day be a celebration. Switch seats with others to gain new perspectives. Become the queen/king of your own heart. Be childlike. Play games.
"life must be lived as play" - plato
I can relate to Alice; a curious, reckless dreamer that loves a good adventure. I've never wanted to "grow up and live in the real world"...
I'd rather create a world of my own.
One of the things I love about Alice is how, as she lay daydreaming of what her own world would be like and sees the white rabbit rushing past declaring "I'm late, I'm late, for a very important date", she assumes he must be late for a party! (let's face it, what could possibly be more important than a good party right?)
Better still, she invites herself and follows him headfirst down his rabbit hole.
As she is about to fall down the rabbit hole, her famous last words are "curiosity often leads to trou.." but before she can finish, she falls down into the darkness of the rabbit hole.
Alice is a rebel; challenging the status quo. She proves that the moral of the story is that curiosity does not lead to trouble, it leads to truth. Curiosity did NOT kill the cat, it made its life worth living.
The story begins when Alice gets bored of listening to a history book with no pictures in it and begins daydreaming.
Symbolic that although it's wonderful to read, it is more important to use your imagination.
To let yourself dream...
“I am enough of an artist to draw freely upon my imagination. Imagination is more important than knowledge. Knowledge is limited. Imagination encircles the world.” ― Albert Einstein
“I am certain of nothing but the holiness of the Heart's affections and the truth of the Imagination.” ― John Keats
I can also relate to The White Rabbit; the ultimate leader of astray.
We all need to be led astray like Alice; out of our cozy comfort zones and into the wilderness of our fears.
From there we can get to timeless oasis of child's play; the infinite land of the heart, where our magic awaits us.
“YOUR VISIONS WILL BECOME CLEAR ONLY WHEN YOU CAN LOOK INTO YOUR OWN HEART. WHO LOOKS OUTSIDE, DREAMS; WHO LOOKS INSIDE, AWAKES.” C.G. JUNG
There is nothing more important for us to do than to get inside our hearts; to live within them; to listen with and to them; to see, speak and act from the heart; to create with them.
"THE LONGEST JOURNEY YOU WILL MAKE IN YOUR LIFE IS FROM YOUR HEAD TO YOUR HEART" SIOUX LEGEND
The Mad Hatter offers many important truths, if only we'd look a little closer.
For example, why can't every day be an unbirthday? Shouldn't every day be treated as special? Shouldn't we always be in a space of appreciation and giving to one another?
Shouldn't every day be a mad celebration?
Shouldn't we be periodically changing seats/perspectives with others?
The Mad Hatter is a genius.
“Crazy people are considered mad by the rest of the society only because their intelligence isn't understood.” ― Zhou Weihui
“No great mind has ever existed without a touch of madness.” ― Aristotle
Allow yourself to go a little mad, its good for the soul.
And as I like to say: you have to get weird to get well.
“It is only through mystery and madness that the soul is revealed” ― Thomas Moore
Life is much like tumbling down a rabbit hole into wonderland.
The more curious you are, the more you drift from what is commonly thought of as "normal" and "safe".
It takes courage, and many times along the way you will wonder if you made the right decision, but once you go down that rabbit hole, there is no turning back. All you can do is keep going and deal with whatever wonderland throws at you as best you can. You can't control the ride through wonderland, but you can control your response to it.
You will meet all kinds of colourful characters along your adventure, only to wake up in the end and realise that they were just different versions of yourself. And although it will be a relief to wake up and realise it was all just a convincing dream, you will treasure it forever. Because, despite the head f%cks, it was full of valuable lessons. It was an incredible one-of-kind adventure, and a story... that will live on forever.
And you will know that it's how those lessons transformed you, that was the whole point of the story.
“Who in the world am I? Ah, that's the great puzzle.” Lewis Carrol
Life is like looking through a lens into a looking glass.
Many of us forget that when we look out into the world we are actually looking at ourselves.
We also forget to adjust our lens to new angles, which is a real shame because fresh perspective is the true treasure of adventure. Discoveries of the world are actually discoveries of self. For self realisation is the greatest treasure hunt; the greatest adventure of all.
"YOU ARE SO BUSY BEING YOU THAT YOU HAVE NO IDEA HOW UTTERLY UNPRECEDENTED YOU ARE" JOHN GREEN
We all have our own rabbit hole and the entry is in your heart.
And if you don't give up and follow it all the way, it will lead you to your very own wonderland; a land of magic, power, wonder & play. A land of your creation. With treasures beyond even your own most wildest dreams.
Just patiently waiting for you..
Are you reeeally curious?
You should be.
